Dr. Denim Slade, Ph.D. is a former marriage and family therapist with over 20 years of experience. He runs a TMS clinic and coaching program in Utah where he is focused on helping people build and maintain healthy relationships using attachment theory and personality profiling.
In today’s episode of Rare Things Podcast, Dr. Denim joins us to break down how attachment styles shape our relationships, emotions and personal growth. He breaks down the four main attachment styles, when these patterns are formed and how they affect us as adults, from how we handle emotions to the way we connect others.
We talk about the concept of a secure base - what it is, why it matters, and how it helps us grow and feel safe. Dr. Denim also explains why emotional needs like feeling valued and safe are essential for healthy relationships.
Our conversation dives into the reason our brains are wired by the age of three, the importance of organizing our emotions, and how attachment affects not just our relationships but also self-perception and career paths.
Along with Dr. Denim, we share some personal reflections, explore coping mechanisms, and how to rewrite unhealthy attachment “rulebooks” for better emotional and relational health.
Join us today as we dive into how attachment styles affect relationships, what a secure base is and its impact on you, how early childhood shapes our brains, how to handle emotions better, ways to improve unhealthy patterns, and much more.
